Clients in divorce mediation or who are engaging in co-parenting therapy often have difficulty being open to more positive ways of functioning. They often feel defensive and can not reach accord because their emotions and beliefs interfere with achieving a positive result. Individual therapy for those who present roadblocks or simply get stuck in addition to or as an adjunct to parent counseling or mediation can be helpful. In this modality they can examine where negotiations are breaking down for them in a supportive setting. They can explore their own resistance and defensiveness with the goal of becoming more open and efficacious in the mediation or co-parenting environment.
