About Dr. Oppenheim

Joan Oppenheim, Psy.D. Dr. Oppenheim is a psychologist specializing in individual, (adults and child/adolescent), couples and family therapy, and psychological assessment. She has worked with the Greenwich, New Canaan, and Fairfield school systems as well as Greens Farms Academy and Seton Academy at Sr. Vincent's Behavioral Health formerly Hall-Brooke Behavioral Health. Dr. Oppenheim trained at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical College. She worked with children and families at Clifford Beers Child Guidance Clinic and Posttraumatic Stress Consortium and Child Guidance of Southern Connecticut. Dr. Oppenheim developed and directed the Psychodiagnostic Assessment Service at Hall-Brooke Hospital where she also provided individual and group therapy to both inpatient and outpatient populations. Dr. Oppenheim maintains a private practice in Westport, Connecticut with a focus on helping children and families as well as individuals adjust to life prior to or at any stage of the divorce process including helping parents to learn to parent together in their new family structures. She has written several articles on helping children and parents adjust during and after divorce.

Dr. Oppenheim conducts psychological/neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults to assess for learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, or simply to better understand an individual's emotional and personality functioning. Such evaluations can inform treatment or aid therapists in a therapeutic impasse with a patient. Dr. Oppenheim has conducted psychological evaluations for the courts as well as custody evaluations and Guardian ad Litem appointments. Dr. Oppenheim also provides consultation to attorneys to help them better understand psychological reports of their clients or those of adverse witnesses.
